Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I am looking forward to tonight's meeting. I want to prepare everyone about what we will be chatting about. We'll be talking about "The Word". aka. "The Bible".
Lets prepare our hearts to be challenged tonight. I want to discuss in honest conversation, our personal views on scripture. I know that we all may have different views on what the bible really is and how it is applicable, so lets be open to talk through it and learn from each other.
Three things that you can be thinking of during the day today.
1. Is the bible really "God speaking to me personally"?
2. Is the bible really relevant to me today?
3. Why is it important for Christians to read the bible?
Again, we will meet at the Chewning's at 5:45 for dinner; then we will go to the Stone's to chat. Jen Stone is bringing dinner. Yummy.
Be thinking about who wants to volunteer to watch the kids tonight. Last week it was Beth Chewning and Jen Sudduth.
Hey Guys. Sorry I missed everyone tonight. Jon had to take his step brother to an appointment and was not home until late and Sarah woke up after her nap from having shots in a lot of pain. I didn't get her calmed down and back asleep until after 5. I wanted to answer the questions that are posted on here since I wasn't here. Feel free to answer or comment as you wish.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that the Bible is indeed God speaking to me personally. I can't even count the times that I have been struggling with something and read a verse that encouraged me or spoke directly to me about a specific problem that I had at that moment. Sometimes I feel like God is saying, "you fool, I am here and I watch over you!" Okay, well maybe not quite that but you get it. I think that without consistent reading of the bible, we can become detached from God's word. I mean, I know for me that I hear God's instruction and guidance from reading the bible so if I cut that part out of my life, how am I going to hear God speak? I know there are other ways of getting a message across but why would I want to jeopardize that?
Thats is a great point Jen. I personally was convicted today that I do not do a good nough job of memorizing teh word. If we do not memorize than we cannot meditate on it. Also, when we memorize the word, it helps me fight temptation and be prepared with Gods word to share with others. Mattt's opinion is pointless but jesus's words are infinitely great. Big difference.
